Beverley Bass, Captain/Pilot
American Airlines / “Come From Away”
Beverley Bass, was the first female pilot at American Airlines to become a Captain, and the first woman in the world to fly the Boeing 777 commercially. On September 11, 2001 she was flying 155 passengers from Paris to Dallas aboard her B-777, when word came to divert to Canada. She was directed to land at the small outpost of Gander, and what happened over those next 5 days inspired a hit Broadway musical that just won a Tony Award — “Come From Away.” Beverley joined Robert & Mary to discuss her career, the 9-11 ordeal and this musical just after its big win.
