When we share that Cape May, NJ is America’s oldest seaside resort/destination, does it surprise you or confirm something you already know? Well New Jersey is the 3rd State to enter our Union back in 1787 — and since Mary grew-up in the Garden State it’s not a surprise to us as Cape May is a place we’ve enjoyed multiple times over the years. Since 1801 the area has been attracting travelers and its geographic location makes it easily assessable from New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, DC and elsewhere. It’s a lot more than just beaches and boardwalks — although you’ll certainly find those there for you to enjoy — but we also appreciate the historical sights, the charming architecture, the easy ferry access to nearby Delaware — and all the Mom & Pop shops, restaurants, B&B’s, motels/hotels and more the that you’ll encounter when you visit, as they’ve successfully resisted being homogenized by the national chains. During our live broadcast of America’s #1 Travel Radio Show on 21 August 2021, for Destination Spotlight #80 in our popular show series — we connected with Vicki Clark, the President of the Cape May County Chamber who shared more about her special region of New Jersey.
