When you think of travel to California you may think of Los Angeles or San Francisco or San Diego, perhaps it’s Disneyland or Joshua Tree National Park, maybe it’s the Napa Valley area or Lake Tahoe.  A region we highly recommend from personal experience and enjoy as a top choice is the Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur region.  From Pebble Beach and the 17-Mile Drive along the scenic coast, to Cannery Row with its hotels, restaurants and even the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the charm of Carmel and its Carmel-by-the-Sea village that’s a personal favorite — to Old Fisherman’s Wharf, and the 200+ vineyards and all the tasting rooms that make up Monterey Wine Country — don’t overlook a trip here to experience a very different side of America’s 31st State.

We first featured the area for our popular “Destination Spotlight” series of the show pre-pandemic during our live broadcast back on our August 3rd 2019 live broadcast, and since much has changed in the world, we felt it was time for a “check-in”…  During our live national broadcast of America’s #1 Travel Radio Show on September 9th 2023, we connected with Rob O’Keefe, the CEO of Monterey County’s Convention & Visitor Bureau.  To hear our conversation with Rob that aired across the USA via our now 530+ weekly stations airing RMWorldTravel with Robert & Mary Carey and Rudy Maxa, simply click on the play arrow immediately following this text…

Back in April 2017 we debuted the “Destination Spotlight” on America’s #1 Travel Radio Show with the goal of featuring lesser known locations that are clearly worthy of your travel considerations.  The segment was an instant hit with our show fans, and during our 3 Aug 2019 live broadcast of RMWorldTravel with Robert & Mary Carey and Rudy Maxa, we showcased our 50th destination — this time focusing on a part of California that is hands-down one of our most favorite — Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur.  Rick Aldinger is a local and long-time travel industry expert on the area, and we asked him to join us to share this special part of the world that’s about 2.5 hours south of San Francisco, and 4 hours north of Santa Barbara on the beautiful California coast.  Monterey features a world-class aquarium, busy pier and wharf, boating/fishing and more.  About 15 minutes down the road is the charming town of Carmel, that’s a treasure offering a little something for everyone.  There area features perhaps the best golf in the world — including Pebble Beach, there’s 17-Mile Drive that includes the Lone Cypress, inviting beaches, and a welcoming climate year round.  You can hear the full interview that aired across our national network of 410+ RMWorldTravel radio affiliates, and now archived on our website here …
