Listen to our Destination Spotlight on Providence

Mayor Brett Smiley
Providence, RI

When what the last time you visited Providence, Rhode Island?  Have you ever visited Providence, RI?  It’s a city that too often can get overlooked by travelers as they pass through on I-95 since it sits between New York and Boston, but it’s a city we certainly say is worthy of your travel dollars.  If you enjoy history, Providence has you covered.  If you enjoy a delicious and diverse food scene, Providence has you covered.  There’s a vibrant cultural scene in Providence, the city hosts many events and festivals, there’s a strong college scene there and its medical facilities are elite too!  Certainly we enjoy Rhode Island for its beaches and the water, but there’s no question that spending a getaway weekend in Providence will provide an experience you won’t duplicate elsewhere.

We first featured Providence during the “Destination Spotlight” segment of America’s #1 Travel Radio Show back on June 23rd, 2018 — and since the city has continued to evolve we decided it was time for a check-in during our live national broadcast on June 8th, 2024 — nearly six years later.  And to get a different perspective as well as a top-down voice, we invited Mayor Brett Smiley to join us on-air to talk-up his city.

Now that the program has been broadcast via satellite to our national network of 580+ weekly stations airing RMWorldTravel with Robert & Mary Carey and Rudy Maxa across the USA, you can hear the interview again via the archived audio here, by clicking on the play arrow immediately following this text …

Martha Sheridan, CEO

For the 27th installment of our RMWorldTravel “Destination Spotlight,” we did something a little different, and while the ‘Travel Duo’ of Robert & Mary Carey were attending the Collette Centennial Celebration in the city, they took time to meet with the CEO of GOProvidence and discuss in-person what makes this charming city fun and alluring for travelers.  Providence, Rhode Island is located in the 13th State in our nation, known to many as the Ocean State.  Although it’s the country’s smallest state, this capital city offers excellent culinary options and a thriving arts scene, it’s a city that’s been given new life with technology and youth from its numerous colleges/universities, it features a terrific zoo, and quaint neighborhoods that allow you to step into history without leaving the modern world.  And Newport, Block Island, Watch Hill or other coastal towns are within a short drive.  During the live broadcast of RMWorldTravel with Robert & Mary Carey and Rudy Maxa on 23 June 2018, we shared this interview with Martha Sheridan.  Here’s a link to Destination Spotlight #27 …
